hey, everyone. I thought it would be interesting to have everyone who utilizes this forum post some basic information about themselves, namely where do you live, how long you have been collecting and from where do you buy your movies?
as for me, i live in Rochester, NY, but I began collecting while living in the New York City area. I've been collecting since 1997, or 1998. i've bought from shops in Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn and Times Square, New York. i've bought from chain retailers like SunCoast and FYE. I've bought from some members of this forum. today, i often buy online.
and you...?

I live on the US Trust Territory of Guam in Micronesia, Asia.

I've been actively collecting since 99.

I get my movies from -

Yesasia
Sensasian
Ebay
HKflix
the mighty Amazon

and by travelling to Taiwan, HK, or the Philippines.

[edit - add] - I stopped counting my collection at 800...

I'm 34 but I will start retro-aging this year and turn 33. :p

New Jersey, US - been collecting since '96, started off slow since I was still in high school and had little money, but have been pickin' up speed lately. For years, I bought from random stores in the Jersey/Philly/NY area, but now I strictly purchase on-line from DDDHouse, Amazon, HKflix. My collection presently stands at a humble 230 movies.

I'm origanally from N.Y.C.,now living in Berlin,Germany via L.A. Been a big fan of K.F.Movies since 81' or so. Had VHS copies of many popular Movies (Venoms, Gordon etc.)since the 80's but just got really into collecting since 2001(When I finally got a DVD Player and started using the net.)I have about 220 MA DVD's.

I live in Long Island by way of NYC. I've been a fan since mid-70s and buying films since the earlier 90s. I stopped for a while then took it back up again within the past few years. I'm far from a hardcore collector as I'll only buy what I like or what has gotten favorable reviews. I'm not much of an online buyer. In fact, the most buying I do is with the members here at this forum. Otherwise, I'll venture to my local Pathmark which surprisingly has a pretty good selection of cheap KF DVDs. I get my Celestial SB fix when I borrow movies from my father-in-law who get his films from YesAsia. Once I get my Cyberhome DVD player, I guess I should start buying my own Celestials. :lol

From the UK, 28 years old.

My first Kung Fu film was probably Enter the Dragon so far back in the mists of time I couldn't guess what year. Been collecting for about 6 years now, got just over 1100 films not including different formats/versions, around 900 odd are Martial Arts movies. Cleaned out the local stores and buy all my stuff online now, mostly from CD-Wow, DDDHouse, Play.com, Sendit.com, Flashlegsrare

Collecting VHS since 1995, DVDs around 2000 (after I got the internet) and first now DVD-Rs..
I only buy DVDs from England (or other EU countries), to avoid paying taxes.
Most of the time by using: www.find-dvd.co.uk

Since I still enjoy watching the movies, more than collecting them, my collection is only a mere 330 films (not counting VHS).

Rindge living in Buffalo by way of Boston (Roxbury actually).

Been collecting hardcore since 1993-4. Started the 1st website in 1995 - The Trader's Forum - to facilitate the trading of Asian movies. Major sources in the early days wereNY based - 43rd chamber, films and games, and karate videos, and the bazaar in Harlem on 125th. After the website the sources were from all over the US.

Stopped collecting in 1999 but have been on the Celestial Bandwagon for obvious reasons since 2002? DDDHouse is my primary source of films these days except when I find myself in NYC - Sept 3rd is the next trip.

I have about 300+ VHS and a growing library of DVD's.

Hey Mr Mischievous!

Im no mediator but Im straight politikin, thats whats up! :hat

Im 21 and reside in London, UK. Hey Killer, I cant believe you are 18!

I buy alot from ebay and am very stingy! The average cost of a dvd to me must be less than $5. I then splurge on Flashlegs dvds, my second family.

Ive seen so many independent Taiwanese films, Im now branching into Chang Cheh and Godfrey Ho. Yes I am like that.

Blazing Temple is a great film! Dont expect too much from Judy tho! As for Shaolin Temple, I copped that and the actual film on the disc was Jet Li's first. Let me know what you think!

I'm 25, i live in Brazil and i think my first kung-fu film was Project A. My collection started circa 93-94, with the release of some John Woo movies and other heroic bloodshed ones thanks to the success of Hard Target around here but it really became serious when i started to work as a film critic (around 2001) and noticed that nobody in Brazil knew s*** about asian films! :P

I own about 650 titles in DVD (originals, dvdr and vcd/vhs/ld/divx conversions) and about 200 tapes.

Been collecting since the mid 80s, had to stop because of lack of room. I have quite a large collection because I seldom go by a reviewer's review-I love to judge how good/bad a movie is for myself. Yes I have a lot of excellent movies & well as crappy ones & I collect from all over the world. Now I am a bit more selective.

The film that got the ball rolling for me was Way of the Dragon in 2002. I immediately became a Bruce Lee fan but once I'd seen all of his 4.5 movies I naturally moved onto Jackie Chan. This of course lead onto Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao and I'm now interested in any and all kung fu films. My collection is'nt too big though I'm always looking for new films to buy.

I'm mainly into 80s and early 90s kickboxing ala Sammo Hung, but I also love the old skool films of Yuen Wo Ping etc.

Oh, and I'm not a Jet Li fan at all.:rolleyes

have been collecting for the past 20 years. I have acquired most of my collection from different parts of the world and from people. 4 year ago I give half of my collection a way, because I felt it is not right not to share what you like with other people. But the main reason was that I was just becoming to obsessed with just saying “I have that film you don’t,” . But, I later learned that the main thing is not just collecting films but just loving them and watching them. I am now trying to covert all my films on to DVD and try dubbing them in English. One of my favourite film is Ways of Kung Fu, please don’t ask why, it is a personal reason that, I can’t even explain to my self. I have this film in every type, wide and full screen, dubbed..etc.. But my top films are One-armed swordsman, Deadly Duo, the Heroes, Layout Kung Fu, Shaolin Plot, Dressed to Fight, Clutch of Power and Killer From Above, etc…

I am working as film editor and also doing film MA. By biggest dream is to direct a kung fu film, something like a remake of the Big Rascal.

I was fortunate enough to have a friend who worked at Kung Fu Video in Boston, MA. Andre Edwards (a very cool cat). Any movie I did'nt like I could return and swap until I found something I felt was worth keeping. I don't believe in holding on to every single martial arts flick you come across. A fan's collection should be tantamount to their individual taste. My collection probably numbers around 750 films. Of which there's probably 100 - 150 I view on a yearly basis. However, I'm always looking for rare gems I have'nt seen.

I like movies that has great inventive choreghraphy, from

Hey I am from St. Louis Missouri, USA, been a fan since I was a baby in the late 70s, what's funny is that I thought those Martial Arts films I was watching on Black Belt Theater were decades old, I would of never known they were brand stanking new. Anyway I started collecting in 2000 when I sought to revisit my childhood, I came across 5 deadly Venoms and Return of the 5 Venoms (Crippled Avengers) at Blockbuster of all places and that set me off on collecting craze that still continues 6 years later.

First Kung fu movie: Half a Loaf of Kung Fu - Jackie Chan

Favorite Kung Fu: Dirty Kung Fu, Crippled Avengers, Taoism Drunkard, anything with Elton Chong, HJL, Gordon Liu, any campy type of movie, or Kung Fu horror.

Favorite non Kung Fu: Seven Samurai, Braveheart, LOTR trilogy, Conan the Barbarian, Barefoot Gen, Young Frankenstien, etc...

Been collecting since 1988, thats when my uncle went to prison for a 25 year stretch and left me with his collection, a mix of about 300 tapes and laser discs. In 1995 I joined the military and my collection totaled about 600 movies.

When i finally came home 7 years later, i found out that the best friend i entrusted my movies with, had sold all but 10 movies. Over the years i built on those 10 movies untill i had about 70, found this forum 2 years ago... and now i have 830 movies.

I practiced Tae Kwon Do for 15 years until i broke my back this past year in an ATV accident. My collection came in handy when i was stuck in a bed with nothing to do.

Howdy y'all, Sikmao here,
my 1st flick to see was 5 Fingers of Death. (i didn't really like this one tho', & i passed over it, when it was re-released.)
i've been into KF flix since the late 70's. i think it was "Rendezvous of Death" that really got me started!!! & when the "Venoms" came on the scene, it was all over!!! (my innocence, that is!)
i've got about 300+ DVD's & way too many VHS to count!
i've been doing MA, for over 30yrs now! (yet, i'm only 25!!!;) hahahaha!) i practice HUNG FUT Kuen & CHEN style TaiJi.
i live in Frisco, Cali now, but grew up in NYC.
i really LOVE this forum & being able to read & discuss all these wonderful topics! mostly, i get stuff from CD-Wow, lately. occasionally i'll go to Chinatown to see if there's anything i've missed.

Peace everyone! I just joined the forum but have been checking it out since 04'. I'm from Brooklyn NY and have been watching Kung Fu movies for over 25 yrs. I used to go to the Rugby, Granada and Kennmore theaters back in the late 70's and early 80's in East Flatbush (for those who know what I'm talking about) ,"The Duece" and Chinatown. I used to collect VHS when that started fading out, some of the places I would get tapes are: Karate Center, 43rd Chamber (who before that were on 42 st). My favorite are Shaw Brothers, but I also love many of the independent flix. I took a hiatus from collecting in 97' but when they started to remaster the Shaw collection I jumped back in with both feet. Over the years I have accumulated over 350 vhs and about 600 dvd. I love this forum, it is the only place I can come and feel normal about this obsession we all here seem to have!!!:rollin

I am in england, first film I saw was Project A when it was on British tv around abouts 1990 I guess, then forgot about it for a few years. In 1994 I borrowed some Jackie Chan / Lo Wei films from my sisters friends boyfriend ( thanks Keith ! ) and saw his awful bootleg of Eastern Condors. The first films I bought were Dragon Fist, Operation Condor,Police Story 2 and 3 - still love Operation Condor and the whole PS series and Eastern Condors is one of the best ever !!!! Been a mad collector since then. Have around 2500 or more films, many many posters, many many many lobbies, hundreds of magazines, a shelf full of books as well as other nicknacks. Published 5 issues of my own short lived mag around 2002 - 03. Bought very little lately as planning to move to Asia soon. Might sell off a lot of my odd bits soon so I have less to move.....If I knew back then what I know now then I wouldnt have bought half the old VHS, VCD and LD I have, you young 'uns dont know how easy you have it since the advent of DVD and the second 'boom' brought about by Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon....Not that I am complaining, it is great that so many rares are becoming not rare any more, just annoyed at the money I wasted before... :D

Kung fu 750, for years I thought I was the only collector in Kansas. Anyway, looks like I have the biggest collection in the state. I've got around 250-300 movies, been into kung fu movies since 2001 I think.

I got into this when a friend gave me Ric Meyer's book after hearing I liked Jackie Chan. First old school movie I remember getting is Legendary Weapons.

I host Kung Fu Fridays here in Kansas every Saturday night at my apartment.

I get my movies from DDDhouse, Hkflix, occasionally from Yesasia, Sensasian, Deepdiscount, Suncoast, and from dollar bins at grocery stores.

Hello everyone my profile is long overdue, i have been a member since 03 and have been into kung fu flicks most of my life. I grew up going to the movies and drive in theaters with my father to see these ficks as a child during the late 70's. (i remember one of the films we went to see was infra-man) During the 80's I taped everything I could off of black belt theater (channel 69 in Atlanta) and later I bought washed out tapes of shaws, independents from anyone I could. After watching these films as a child, teenager and a grown man I got burned out. Im a fan of world cinema and my interest expanded into spaghetti westerns, samurai films, galli, cult you name it but eventually I came back to my old love kung fu flicks. Im just getting back in the game and im in the process of rebuilding my collection btw my favorite film is The Hot, The Cool and The Vicious

Hello, kung fu filmfans, i've been collecting since around 1981, my first two films were VHS copies of Fist of Fury, and The Big Boss, by a company i no longer remember the name, however, these tapes were good quality, and the films were cut. I then found a store here in Chicago, where i live and this guy had 1000's of Martial Arts films on VHS! I 've been collecting every since then. In '98 i started on DVD's and currently have over 600 DVD's and 500 VHS. The Shaws remasters have been a gem, and with home theater Dolby Digital audio has really improved the experience, though many complained about the 5.1 remixed audios and the company stopped including the tracks on the releases in the last twelve months. That was a drag for me but the film quality has never looked better.
Let's talk Kung Fu.....!!!!!!!!

I went to see Five Fingers of Death the first week it opened.proceded to see every KungFu movie that came in it's wake. Back then the films were all rated R, being 12, I worked a deal with the theater usher at the local grind house in New Haven, Connecticut. He would let me in the back door of the theater for two bucks every Saturday. Most of the movies that played were bashers, I still love basher flicks to this day. In 1988, I stumbled onto a wall of Ocean Shores videos at the local shop, and there was "Karado the Hong Kong Cat" I was back in heaven and have been collecting ever since. This is the best community on the web for Kung Fu movies. Keep up the good work.

I'm originally from Westchester, New York. I currently live in Pennsylvania with my wife and two kids and am moving to Florida in a few weeks. Been watching MA films since I was 4 years old thanks to my dad, one of the biggest Bruce Lee fans around. Started when they would have Bruce Lee week on WNYW 5 and saw The Big Boss, aka Fists of Fury when it was on a Monday night at 8pm. My late uncle would also visit and bring MA flicks to lend me for the week and my dad and I used to go to the Bronx every weekend and I would always rent the MA films. Officially started collecting after graduating high school. I would get Videos from Suncoast, FYE, and even stores in NYC. Once I became a film studies major and the DVD era came, I would go to Chinatown and collect DVDs. Combined movies on DVD, VHS, and of course, MA movies I taped from cable, I'd have to say I have oh...about 1000 or more MA movies in total.

Today, I would go to Walmart to get some of the Dragon Dynasty or other MA films as well as order from time to time from YesAsia.com or Deep Discount.

Well i'm 25 I started watching kung fu movies when i was little. My uncles would stay up late, and watch kung fu theater(i think thats what it was called) on CH 26.I was hook but what really got me hooked, was watching the old skool ninja films.Seeing guyz disapear, hoping in and out of trees dropping from high levels. As a little kid that was the best, but never thought about collecting.Intell I got my hands on a copy of Storm Riders. Then after that i got a hook up,at blockbusters so then it was on.I started picking up old skool wu-tang tapes and dvds.A few jet li's and jackie chan's and so on,so thats my little short history. My collection i'm not sure the total, but im guessing over 400,but i will get back to u guyz on that total.I myself would say im not a picky person,I love old skool, new skool, wire work.Whateva if u got good action then u got me hooked.I don't need the best story, just have something that doesn't make me stop the movie, take it out and wanna break it.Thats me simple, but this forum so far is a blast, so im glad im apart of it so thx to the makers and i will catch u guyz later.

Hello KFC. :)

I live in Brentwood, California and am 25 years of age.

I've been coming to KFC.com for a few years. And I've been a fan of the kung fu genre even longer (about 10 years). I didn't start collecting until around 2000, but I've managed to build up a nice little library since then, which Iam constantly adding to. I haven't actually counted how many movies I have, but Iam guessing around 120 or so. Master Killer (aka 36th Chamber of Shaolin) was the movie that got me hooked onto the genre. And I've been obsessed with kung fu movies ever since.

Anyway, I'm very happy to be part of the community.

Live in the UK, been collecting kung fu movies since i was about 9-10 years old, Im 27 now! Got a collection of well over 1000 on DVD, VCD and VHS. First kung fu movie I got given was Fist of Fury 3 with Bruce Li, and that sparked my love of the Clone movies which continues til this day.

I remember a time when the only way to see the latest hk flicks was from bad bootleg copies, often pretty unwatchable from companies like Eastern Heroes and Shaolin Video, and paying about 20 each for the uncut versions of the Bruce Lee movies, which were also awful quality. Got most of my original collection of kung fu tapes from boot sales and markets, something that you rarely see at those places these days. Moved onto VCD during the late 90's, and then DVD, which I now mostly buy online from yes asia, etc.

Love all types of Hong Kong cinema, and Ive wrote for magazines like Jade Screen, Screen Power, and Vengeance. As well as running a few asian movie related sites.

Peace everyone,

I'm Cee and originally I'm from Philly but I now live in Atlanta. I've been collecting since about 1988. I've got about 200 on VHS and another 150 on DVD (not counting duplicates because I own some movies three and four times). I tend to collect Shaw Bros. because that's what I mostly grew up watching in the 70's and 80's. I usually buy from Yesasia for Celestial Shaw releases and HK Flix for other titles. I used to buy the bootlegs from the porn shops but I have two original Ocean Shore VHS (Street Gangs of hong Kong and Ninja In Deadly Trap). I started buying those bootleg DVD's from Best Buy, Sun Coast and media Play and I also used to hit 43rd chamber when I lived in NY in the late 90's.

Realized I never put my info here.

I'm 37 and have been living in Atlanta for the last 13 years, I grew up watching black belt theater in the late 70's-early 80's, kind of got out of it towards the late 80's with no one else to share my love, started back into the mid 90's with the internet and the wealth of information for these movies. Luckly I live between two kickass Indie video stores that have Asian sections, I also love Samurai and Kaiju movies and been getting into more Yakuza lately. Been on KFF(I guess now it's KFCF) since the beginning of 2005. I'm a musicain and artist and draw major inspiration from these movies.

I've just joined, stopped collecting awhile ago just due to going to uni but that was years ago now and I am quite keen to get back into it.

Started off buying from Flash Legs in Clapham and then I used to buy from Toby's stall in Camden, London, UK and when I went there earlier this year I saw it was no longer there? Anyone on here from the UK know what happened?

Used to love my Saturday trips coming back with 5-10 films and spending rest of the week watching them.

Big fan of Venoms and Shaw Brothers which probably isn't a surprise.

I'm a 34 year old Network Engineer from St. Louis, Missouri...

I've collected Martial arts movies since my teen years; back then they were on VHS, some bought, some recored off TV when I could catch them...

Between my wife and I we have about 350 DVDs, I'd say a good 150 of them are old martial arts moves or some new movies that that would fall into the martial arts genere... I

I am kind of sad that none of my family or friends like the old M.A. movies and laugh at me when I try to get them to watch one, so I usally watch them by myself...

I also collect Martial Arts (mostly Ninja) weapons...

Shuriken, Sai, Kama, Jute, swords, knives, blowguns, ashiko, shuko, etc... If its been in a old Ninja movie, I might have one or two...

One day, I want to build a really nice backlight case for them all... Something kinda like the evil Ninja's stach spot in the cave on Ninja III: The Domination... Where the hidden drawer slides out of the rock and all the Ninja tools are in there glowing under the backlight... I always thought that would be cool... If I could only get the fog machine to work... OK, joking on that part...
